New Cross-Platform Malware 'Noodle RAT' Targets Windows and Linux Systems

A newly identified cross-platform malware, dubbed Noodle RAT, has been employed by Chinese-speaking threat actors for espionage and cybercrime since at least July 2016. Targeting both Windows and Linux systems, Noodle RAT functions as a modular backdoor capable of file manipulation, running malware, and proxying connections. It shares similarities with Gh0st RAT and Rekoobe but is recognized as a distinct type of malware. Trend Micro researchers discovered that Noodle RAT is likely developed and sold within China’s cyber espionage ecosystem, suggesting extensive collaboration between private and state-sponsored actors.
