The Brain Cipher ransomware gang has leaked data stolen from Rhode Island’s RIBridges social services platform, impacting around 650,000 people. RIBridges, used to manage social assistance programs, was breached in early December, with Deloitte confirming the attack on December 10 after receiving hacker-sent screenshots. The state shut down the system on December 13 to mitigate the threat. Leaked data includes personal information, such as Social Security numbers and banking details, prompting officials to advise credit monitoring and caution against phishing scams. Brain Cipher, active since June 2024, uses ransomware built from the leaked LockBit 3.0 builder. Although the gang's data leak site is offline, their negotiation page remains operational, suggesting possible DDoS attacks on the leak site.
