A large-scale cyber-attack, described as the largest in Slovakia’s history, has hit the Office of Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre (UGKK), disrupting land registry services, real estate, mortgage markets, and public services. The attack, which involved a seven-digit ransom demand, led to system shutdowns and limited operations of cadastral departments. Slovak politicians suggested a possible link to Ukraine amidst tensions over gas supply, while officials assured that data is backed up with no risk of fraudulent property changes. Cyber policy expert Pavlina Pavlova emphasized the critical need for swift recovery and transparent communication, warning of the broader impacts of cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure in the region.
