UK’s new cyber security Code of Practice to protect AI use

The UK government is introducing a Code of Practice to enhance AI cybersecurity, ensuring AI can safely contribute to the digital economy while mitigating risks like hacking and system failures. This framework provides businesses with guidelines on securing AI, including training programs, risk assessments, and incident recovery plans. By promoting secure innovation, the Code aligns with the government’s Plan for Change, supporting economic growth and the AI sector, which generated £14.2 billion last year. Additionally, the UK is collaborating internationally through the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to establish a global AI security standard and has launched the International Coalition on Cyber Security Workforces (ICCSW) to address cyber skills shortages. Complementing this, the updated Cyber Governance Code of Practice in 2025 will provide clearer guidance for senior leaders in managing cyber risks effectively.
